You’ve wanted to play for years. The piano is here.
Classical, jazz, pop, soul and film music — with pianist Vytautas Straižys, on the club stage or online from anywhere in the world. The one thing these lessons never include is the question of why you didn’t start earlier.
What we can work on
-
Piano technique & repertoire
- Classical, jazz, pop, soul and film music
- Technique, interpretation and a feel for style
-
Improvisation & creativity
- Jazz, blues and pop improvisation
- Improvising from melody, chords and rhythm rather than a prepared formula
- Improvising in the musical language of Debussy, Rachmaninoff or Einaudi
-
Writing songs & pieces
- Bringing form, harmony and melody together in one song
- The foundations of writing songs and instrumental pieces
- Arrangement and musical structure
-
Singing at the piano
- Singing for beginners
- Playing and singing at the same time
- Accompanying yourself and others
-
Harmony & musical analysis
- Harmony, form and chord function
- Breaking down complex pop and jazz progressions into sounds you can hear and play
- Learning to hear chord function and musical form
Who is it for?
- Beginners — adults and teenagers, no preparation needed
- Advancing pianists and players of other instruments
- Vocalists who want to accompany themselves
- Jazz guitarists, saxophonists, violinists
- Composers and producers deepening their grasp of harmony
- Anyone who wants to play a favourite song without sheet music — I teach by ear, by chord charts, or from notation
How I teach
- We build the programme around the music you want to play and the goal you want to reach
- I combine learning by ear, chord charts, notation and technical exercises to suit the way you learn
- Fully practical study is possible: no notation, chords only, or purely by ear
- Preparation for exams, auditions, recordings and concerts
I also teach online — worldwide
Students currently join from Australia, Denmark, the USA, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK. The only difference from a lesson at the club is the time zone — and we adapt to that.
What an online lesson looks like
Lessons take place at a Roland GP9 digital grand, with a second keyboard beside me. On your computer screen, you see my hands, the keys I press and how the music is written, all in real time:
- The physical and virtual keys
- Note names, scale degrees and chord symbols
- Staff notation with the name of every note

I’d really rather not recommend this teacher to anyone: I’m afraid there’ll be no lesson times left for me, or the price will go up. So, once more — do not study with him.
You sit down at the piano and hope that time will slow down, just a little.
The smile never leaves his face, even when you play it wrong for the fifth time.
His patience and warmth make a room where I’m not afraid of mistakes — here they’re part of the learning.
