Jacob Collier’s Mother Conducted the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra
On July 11, the Great Courtyard of the Palace of the Grand Dukes brought together Jacob Collier, vocal sextet Take 6 and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra.
Collier often turns an audience into another choir, building multi-part harmonies from voices in the room. In Vilnius that approach met Take 6, whose blend of a cappella, gospel and jazz he had listened to since childhood.
Suzie Collier conducted the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. A conductor, violinist and Jacob’s mother, she was his first music teacher and introduced him to choral music. Their appearance was therefore a continuation of a long musical relationship, not simply a family cameo.
The stage held Collier’s layered vocal harmonies, the six voices of Take 6 and a string orchestra. At the podium stood the person who had first introduced him to choral music.
