On 15 October, guitarist Julijus Girdenis, one of the most phenomenal performers of Lithuania’s young jazz generation, takes the Downtown Piano Lab stage. It is not only his age that surprises, but also his musical maturity, technical freedom, and exceptionally deep understanding of the language of jazz. Julijus plays as though he had spent several decades on stage: boldly, sensitively, confidently, and with a distinctive musical character. He is a performer worth hearing now – at the very beginning of a great musical story. We have no doubt: this musician will become an absolute legend. Julijus will be joined on stage by the Vytautas Straižys Jazz Quartet. Pianist, arranger, and founder of Downtown Piano Lab Vytautas Straižys is distinguished by exceptional musical sensitivity and the ability to create arrangements right there on stage. Double bassist Aliaksey Kryshtal, who has international concert experience, will provide the quartet’s sound with a firm foundation and vibrant pulse, while the drums will be played by versatile young-generation musician Jonas Filmanavičius.
