Downtown Piano Lab presents a long-awaited musical surprise for jazz lovers and invites you to a special encounter with Viktorija Gečytė and Vytautas Straižys. Viktorija Gečytė is a well-known Lithuanian jazz star whose unique vocal timbre and creative work have been acclaimed by listeners and critics in Europe and across the Atlantic. Refined phrasing, a unique vocal sound, infectious swing and all the most beautiful colours of jazz are vividly reflected in Viktorija's performances and original work. Living in France, the vocalist not only emphasises the traditions of New York jazz in her performances, but also creates distinctive improvisations that invite listeners into an emotion-filled vocal journey, reveal motifs from the sounds of different cultures and offer an experience of true jazz mastery. This time, Viktorija Gečytė's voice will come together in a unique performance with virtuoso pianist Vytautas Straižys. Having studied music at the M. K. Čiurlionis Conservatory and the Royal Conservatoire in the Netherlands, Vytautas is a versatile performer, creator and master of the keyboard, able to surprise audiences with dense, richly layered harmony. The ability to blend stylistic elements from a wide range of genres in professionally performed improvisations is the pianist's distinctive trait in creating and performing music. Inspired by Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock, as well as Sergei Rachmaninoff and Claude Debussy, V. Straižys is like a broad musical palette for even the most discerning music lovers, especially jazz connoisseurs. The Dainykla project is partly funded by Vilnius City Municipality.
