John Coltrane 100 - Season Opening

On 3 September, DOWNTOWN PIANO LAB will open its new concert season with a special evening dedicated to one of the most influential jazz creators of all time, saxophone legend John Coltrane, whose 100th birthday is being marked by the entire music world this year. Coltrane's music is an endless journey from lyrical ballads to improvisations filled with freedom, intensity and spiritual searching. His work changed the history of jazz, and albums such as “Blue Train”, “Giant Steps” and “A Love Supreme” continue to inspire musicians and listeners of different generations. Rokas Jaunius - tenor saxophone Vytautas Straižys - piano Aliaksei Kryshtal - double bass Drummer - TBA The programme will feature legendary compositions, sensitive ballads and energetic improvisations in which respect for the original will merge with the musicians' live, contemporary interpretation. This will be more than a concert: it will be the symbolic beginning of a new DOWNTOWN PIANO LAB season, an evening filled with the freedom of jazz, unexpected musical dialogues and the distinctive energy of live sound. And when the concert ends, a surprise awaits: an open jam session in which the music and improvisations will continue. This evening certainly will not end quickly.
