GIEDRIUS NAKAS QUARTET: ORIGINAL MUSIC
Giedrius Nakas · Karolis Šarkus · Tuomas J. Räsänen
This is an evening for those who want to hear jazz not as background music, but as a living, unpredictable and engaging story. Pianist and composer Giedrius Nakas presents a programme of original music featuring pieces from his jazz albums. It is music in which modern jazz meets neo-soul, hip-hop, classical music, rock and the dramatic language of film music. One moment it may be subtle, lyrical and hypnotic, and the next erupt with driving energy, unexpected rhythms and improvisations. One of Giedrius's most prominent works is the album “No Fear, Full Of Love”, recorded in New York, on which he played with internationally acclaimed US jazz musicians Ben Williams, Justin Brown, Troy Roberts and Caleb Curtis. The compositions on the album stand out for memorable melodies, contrasts and a constant balance between carefully written music and improvisation created on the spot. Another important creative stage is the album “The Dream I Forgot”. Its music resembles a dream or a film without a screen: longer, multi-part compositions gradually build tension, shift moods and create a distinctive narrative. What matters here is not individual virtuosity alone, but also the sensitive dialogue of the entire ensemble, so every live performance takes on new colours. Giedrius Nakas studied in Vilnius, The Hague, Groningen and New York, and has performed in many European countries and the United States. Lithuanian audiences also know him from collaborations with Andrius Mamontovas, Jurga, Monika Liu, Monika Linkytė, the band “Saulės Kliošas” and other well-known performers. His original programme has been performed at the “Kaunas Jazz” and “Šiauliai Jazz” festivals, at Paliesius Manor and on other concert stages. This evening, four excellent Baltic jazz musicians will meet on stage. Giedrius Nakas – piano, keyboards Karolis Šarkus – saxophone Tuomas J. Räsänen – drums This will be a concert in which melody, rhythm and improvisation come together in one living musical journey. Each piece will have its own story, and each story will be told only once that evening. Do not miss the opportunity to hear Giedrius Nakas Quartet's original, bold and cinematic music up close. The Dainykla project is partly funded by Vilnius City Municipality.
